School Show

We had a great year at the school show. Here are a few pics:

Bubba was grand champion in the food division with these yummy cinnamon rolls. Turns out he can cook too! We got the recipe here. If you haven't gone to Pioneer Woman's cookin' blog you are really missing out!

Jacque D had the grand champion photography entry with this fabulous photo she took of Allie. BTW, that's the grand champion steer in the background. His name is Jackson. He doesn't belong to us but to our friend Adri...we are proud of her too!

Little Man was the reserve champion in the food division with delicious peanut blossom cookies. Those are the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey's kiss in the middle. He was pretty funny in the kitchen...he even ate cookie dough that he dropped on the floor! Jacque was third in her class with a wonderful chocolate sheet cake. She tested my patience in the kitchen as well when she tried her one handed egg cracking! I told her we WERE NOT on Iron Chef! Sheesh! Regrettably I didn't get photos of their entries. It was a very hectic day!

Here's Bubba and Allie in what will end up being their last time in the show ring together. Turns out that none of the major shows have a class for her. Alas, she is too old! This was heart breaking news for me because I so enjoyed traveling to the shows and spending time with Bub! Darnit! Makes me pretty sad! She did an awesome job and so did August. She was the reserve champion heifer. Of course in our eyes, she will always be a grand champion!

Here are your grand champion and reserve champion pigs! YEAH! Leighton showed August's pig for him because he was at the football game in Port Neches/Groves. We decided that Leighton would show for August since he had more experience showing pigs. He really did a fantabulous job! Jacque showed Leighton's pig and she did a great job as well! Looks like she's walking on a runway, don't you think? It's all in the way you swing your hair, lol! Oh, and August was grand and Leighton was reserve! YIPPEE! We worked hard with these pigs!

Auction day was on Saturday. It's always a sad day for me. I hate to say goodbye to our pigs. I know that is silly...August always tells me "they're food mom!"...and yes I do eat pork. But, still...I get attached. I like to think that we've given them a good life while we've had them. On the day of the auction I had David feed them big and then when I got to the barn I fed them again. Caused us some trouble come picture time. All they wanted to do was lay there and sleep and to be left alone! Oh, well, at least we sent them on their way with a full belly. Our pictures sure won't be great but who cares, right!?

I have mixed emotions about "dressing" animals up for auction day. Some kids do it, ours did last year. To me it just seems degrading. Our kids decided not to play dress up with the pigs this year. I was grateful for that. I did think this little goat was cute dressed as a yellowjacket. Poor baby! It just wouldn't do for me to have my way...heck, I'd have all of them in my backyard if David would let me!

Here's a job no one wanted to do. This is Jacque right before going in to the show ring!

And last but not least here is my little man helping his piggie out by giving her a much needed drink of water! I think he gets a little sad too...maybe I'm wrong but he's kind of a sensitive kind of guy! He's a Pisces like his mom! :-)
